How to Join and What it Costs

New flying members and associate members are always welcome at the Narrogin Gliding Club.

Anyone wanting to fly must join both the Narrogin Gliding Club (NGC) and the Gliding Federation of Australia (GFA).

This is done by filling in the GFA Membership Form & making 2 payments, one to the to the NGC & one to the GFA. Yes, we know its silly but its just another consequence of the GST.

Both fees can be paid by post or to the Duty Logkeeper at the airfield when you visit for your flight. The Duty Logkeeper will take care of all the details for you.

All costs quoted below are inclusive of GST.

An Air Experience Flight at Narrogin Airfield costs $140 for a 20-30 minute flight.

This amount includes Membership of both the GFA and NGC for 3 days.  You are regarded as a trainee pilot and may be offered the controls during the soaring part of the flight.

AEF students must not touch the controls during the take-off and ascent or during the circuit or landing phases of the flight.

The length of flight depends on the weather and the requested style of flying (aerobatics are fun but you are back on the ground faster).

Tow Cost for Members (Club Rate)

Launch $4.75 per minute

Retrieve $4.25 per minute

Glider Hire for Members (Club Rate)

Normal Hire (Sat, Sun or Pub Hols):

To encourage cross-country flying, there is no glider-hire fee after 2.5 hours in a single flight.

Booking for State Comps including Practice Days - $TBA (check with the Treasurer)

Weekly booking for Cross Country Course - $TBA (check with the Treasurer)

(arranged through the committee)

Guest Flights     Fee: Club rates apply

Genuine friends & family members of members only can fly as a  guest.   Guests cannot legally use the controls.   The flight is payable on the A/c of NGC Flying Member only; the Member must pay at least 50% of cost.

Note: Only the NGC form is required.

Visiting Pilot Information

Visiting GFA Members must show a current GFA Card.  They may fly at club rates.

Overseas Pilots must pay a 1 month Membership to the NGC (currently $50) & GFA (refer GFA web site).  An AEF fee is insufficient.

All accounts of visiting pilots must be paid in full at the airfield.

Instruction & Training Costs

There is no cost for instruction.  Instructors are available on Saturdays and Sundays each weekend and at certain other times as announced in the Newsletter, for example, on some Public Holidays.

Instruction is also available at Ab-Initio Courses scheduled for late January, at Easter and in early October.  A $1350 fee is payable which includes 12 month Membership Fees for GFA & NGC, the Pilot Pack, accommodation for the duration of the course and flights charged at club rates.  Any unused balance from the initial Course Fee is non-refundable except for medical reasons. NGC Flying Members may also join Ab-initio Courses.

Accommodation Costs

Bunk rooms beds are available at $3 per night for Members and $5 per night for non-Members. The money is payable through the slot in bar before leaving the airfield.  You must write your name in the Hut Fees book next to the slot.

Some Members have chosen to park their own caravan at the airfield.  The cost is $110 per annum.  The casual rate for visiting caravans or campers is $3 per person per night for Members (and their guests in the same caravan or tent), and $5 per person per night for non-Members.
